Founded in 2010 by Glenda Kickett and Shannon McGuire, the Perth based Miss NAIDOC programme has supported the voice of young women in the Indigenous community for over 10 years, with a 6-week empowerment and leadership programme. In 2022, the Mr NAIDOC program joined the lineup to afford the same opportunity of experience and growth for young Indigenous men.
The Miss and Mr NAIDOC Perth programme aims to create a safe space for women and men to come into and discuss current and ongoing issues for the Indigenous communities and for Australia as a whole. It is much more than a simple beauty pageant, it is a course that highlights our cultural heritage and explores how we can make an impact on the future. The Miss and Mr NAIDOC Perth winners are people who have shown an innate ability to lead, people who are comfortable in themselves and are confident to stand in a room and speak out on the issues that they are passionate about.
