The NAIDOC Perth Awards recognise and acknowledge outstanding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, organisations and businesses who have made a significant contribution to our community in Perth.

Female Elder of the Year

This Award is open to females who are considered to be Elders within their family or community. No age restrictions have been set for this award.

Elders who are positive role models who have contributed to their families or communities over a number of years will be looked upon favourably.

Male Elder of the Year

Sponsored by CHEVRON

This Award is open to males who are considered to be Elders within their family or community. No age restrictions have been set for this award.

Elders who are positive role models who have contributed to their families or communitiesover a number of years will be looked upon favourably.

Youth of the Year

Award Sponsored by Indigo Junction

This prestigious award is open to an individual under the age of 25 years who has contributed significantly to the development and empowerment of Perth’s Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander youth and services over a five (5) year period or more.

The chosen recipient will have demonstrated exceptional leadership, vision, empowerment and cultural integrity.

Outstanding Achievement Award

Specifically selected from all applications by the NAIDOC Perth Committee.

Education Achievement of the Year

Sponsored by the Department of Health, Aboriginal Health Policy

Includes students at Secondary (High School) and Tertiary (TAFE or University) institutions as well as those in Vocational Education and Training (VET) Programs.

The Award applies to students who are currently studying or who have completed their studies.

Business of the Year

Sponsored by Hancock Prospecting

This Award is open to successful businesses that are at least 50% Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander owned and based in the Perth metropolitan area.

Examples include (but not limited to) Indigenous Printing, Clothing/attire, Trade, Tourism, Science& Technology, etc.

Artist of the Year

Award Sponsored by Wungening Aboriginal Corporation

This Award is open to visual or performing Artists such as Painters, Designers, Photographers and Film makers, Sculptors, Dancers, Musicians, Singers, Actors, etc.

Open to individuals and groups.

Nursing Award

Sponsored by Department of Health – Chief Nursing & Midwifery Office

This Award recognises Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander who demonstrate outstanding dedication, skill and impact in the field of Nursing within the Perth metropolitan area.

This includes (but is not limited to) nurses working in hospitals, community health, aged care, mental health, or remote outreach settings, who make a meaningful contribution to the health and wellbeing of our people.

Carer of the Year

Sponsored by Derbarl Yerrigan Health Services Aboriginal Corporation

This Award is open to individuals who are Carers in a paid or voluntary capacity. This includes caring for the elderly, sick, disabled, or their own or other people’s children (eg. foster children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, siblings, children and young people in hostels or family group homes).

Program of the Year

This Award is open to Not-For-Profit organisations that deliver quality Programs to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and is based in the Perth metropolitan area.
